Things people forget when changing address

When changing address, there are so many things to remember to do and so many things that can get forgotten along the way.

We have been able to compile a list of things people wish they hadn’t forgotten to do when they changed address. Hopefully this will help you when it’s time for you to take on that big move.

  • Pick up personal records
When people change address, they often forget to pick up their
records from various offices such as medical record and vet records for
Think ahead when you are planning an address change to make sure
that you have all the records you need to get you off to a good start in
    your new home.
  • Keys and valuables
Another common thing people forget to do when changing address, is
their keys and valuables. Chances are that people usually keep hidden a
spare set of keys or even valuables, in a place only they know. Make an
effort to visit all of your secret hiding places before you move home.
  • Change of address notifications
Notifying employers, government offices, banks, schools, friends and
family that you are changing address can be a pain at the best of
times. It is easy to forget who you have told and who you haven’t.
People often forget to notify the most obvious offices like the
Australian Tax Office, the Electoral Role or Medicare and wonder why
things aren’t showing up at their new address.
  • Other people’s possessions
People too often move house and leave unknowingly with possessions that are not theirs.
Whether it be a book borrowed from a previous local library or from a
friend, or a pile of DVD’s that are accruing huge fees with every day
that goes by, remember to return and clear any debts before moving home.
  • Final clean up
One of the most forgotten items during any move is a final clean up
after the moving truck has left. The last bags are in the car and you
think you are done with the house once and for all. Best to check the
house when it is empty, top to bottom, for any stray items you might
have left behind. Whether you want them or not, try to remove them from
    the property before you leave.
  • Garage door remote
Remember to leave the garage door remote somewhere easy to find,
like the kitchen counter for example. Too many people usually forget and
drive off with it when they leave for their new destination.
